TREASON IN THE OLD PORT

Over two hundred years ago, Montreal was a city on the brink. The war of 1812 raged on to the south, and American troops threatened to march into the city at any moment. Join forces with a young historian as she digs into this time period and uncovers long-hidden secrets, clandestine plots and a web of deceit in an attempt to redeem her great grandfather’s legacy and the history of his garrison who defended their home from foreign invasion.

Along the way, you’ll watch the storied stone walls and beautiful cobblestone streets of Old Port come alive as you explore the many sides of the story of Montreal and its importance over the last 400 years. Learn about the lives of the First Nations, French and English peoples who shaped the growth of the city and witness evidence of those changes alive in the streets today. Help the historian sift through evidence, separating fact from myth to unravel an age old mystery obscured by the fog of war and the veil of empire.

Search for clues along the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Montreal at some of the city’s most iconic landmarks including:

  • The two majestic squares central to the city’s history – Place Saint-Jacques and Place D’Armes
  • Sites of historic battles in the heart of the city that decided the fate of Montreal for centuries
  • The old city walls and the homes of key figures Montreal’s history 
  • The site of the first European home in Montreal, and the hidden river that was home to first nations communities for thousands of years

FAQs

Teams receive a hunt package:
A list of clues, map, etc. Our hosts get players in the mood and ready to play and then send them off! Each team must decide how to approach the hunt, and make their own route.

Teams have one and a half hours to explore the area, tracking down and solving clues, seeking answers and completing challenges. There is more than four hours of clues to cover, so teams will need to plan their hunt ahead of time and race against the clock to answer as many clues as possible.

To wrap up, teams are scored, a winner is declared. The winner receives the coveted Golden Magnifying Glass.

Yes, Treason in the Old Port is a perfect introduction to Urban Capers.
Your group will all meet in one spot to be given a detailed introduction by our hunt hosts, but once the hunt starts, groups will separate into smaller teams to solve the mystery. Each team will run a unique route between the clues.
Once you have decided on a date and time, and spoken with our dedicated event planners, and are ready to book, we have a simple process. We ask for a 50% deposit on your estimated player count, which secured the booking. From there, you have up to a week before the event to adjust your headcount.
Our hunts are finely tuned and well tested to ensure maximum fun for all. Therefore, we do not encourage changes to the hunt route, or specific questions.

We are happy to change the start or ending location to suit your needs, and include special announcements in the introduction or conclusion.

Yes, at the end of the hunt, we will present the winning team with the much coveted golden magnifying glass (1 per team.)

However, some groups prefer to offer additional prizes to the winning team, or even to all participants. If you wish to do so, you can simply give the prizes to our hunt hosts at the beginning of the event and they will award them to the winners at the end of the hunt.
